WORKSHOPS & DISCUSSION GROUPS

Ladyfest Cork will not just entertain but will also educate, and provoke discussion. For this purpose we offer a host of workshops and talks over the weekend.

Our workshops and talks are an opportunity for people to share information and work together for creative and positive change in their communities. So join in on a class, learn a new skill, share information and have your say on feminist issues.

Most workshops are open to all genders, however some are deemed suitable for women only. All workshops are by donation and are filled on a first come first served basis.

Lee Room, Victoria Hotel, Sunday 27th April, 13.00 – 15.00

Unhappy with your body? Yep, most women seem to be these days. But the reasons for that go a heck of a lot deeper than personal experience. If you would like to have a clearer picture of why you have been conditioned to feel uncomfortable in your own skin, we got the facts. In addition to a bit of the history of twentieth century body issues learn a few science facts that may change your mind about healthy living and what that really means. We will also look at a few ways to change the way we see and feel about our bodyselves. Yep, it is serious business, but as ever we like to have a laugh so don't expect a lecture, expect a bit of goodness with the good news.

The Cork Unitarian Church was built between 1710 and 1717. It is the oldest place of worship in Cork City. It was built as a Unitarian Church and is still used for this purpose. On Saturday 26th April, Ladyfest Cork will be hosting
some events in this church.

We would like to invite all mothers and children along to Ultrasound! a fun music workshop for mammies and kids organised by members of Cork experimental improvisation group, Eachtra. For more details see details below or contact: ultrasoundworkshop@gmail.com

There will also be films screened in the Church, along with a talk from the Cork Women’s Right to Choose Group, a discussion on Feminism organised by the Rag Collective and a zine making workshop where you can learn to make your own zine!
The Bitchin Kitchin will be there from 12 Noon – 6.00pm, providing cheap and tasty vegetarian food. Local merchants will be offering their wares at stalls and there will also be a make and do corner.

Ultrasound! Kids music workshop

The idea was created out of a hope that a new collective of creative mothers could be unfolded here in Cork. Vicky Langan is running the workshop.

Statement from Vicky:
In my own personal experience, I find motherhood to often be one of the most lonely and isolating jobs in the world, with or without a partner by your side. There are few places in Cork where one can casually meet other parents. Inspired by Dublin's Seomra Spraoi,
I felt it important to set up a space for children in order to bring forward the mammies
of Cork.

In this workshop, I hope to show the children a fun time through music using music based games and handmade instruments, while creating a space for mothers to meet like minded parents. Hopefully we can go on create a small community amongst ourselves, be able to share skills and advice with one another and more importantly, to perhaps recognise in other mothers the isolation you may feel or have once felt and be there to offer a helping hand or listening ear.

In order to accommodate a wide age range of children, I have asked the two other members of our band, Eachtra, to help out with the workshop. They are Joanne Collins and Aine Mangaoang (ex Hooray for Humans).

Expect bells, music boxes, xylophones, whistles, things that tick, tock, tinkle, wind, whump and WHOOSH!

Feel free to get in touch through ultrasoundworkshop@gmail.com
