THE MUSIC LINE-UP
Bela Emerson
Cyprus Avenue, Saturday 26th April. 23.55.
Combing electric cello with loops and effects, UK’s Bela Emerson strives constantly to explore the potential and extend the boundaries of the instrument’s place in contemporary music. Passionate and exciting, both musically and visually, she captivates audiences and has won crowds over at Glastonbury, Big Green, Brighton and Shambala Festivals as well as at Sydney Opera House and throughout Europe. Using an array of electronics, pedals and effects that take the cello way beyond its usual sphere, Bela builds layers of rhythm and sound, not just from strings and bow but from every bit of the instrument. Sounds are looped, take on lives of their own, bounce off each other, drop in and out… The effect, as anyone who’s heard her will testify, is mesmeric www.myspace.com/belaemerson |

Dutch-Croatian DITs music is inspired by their despise of modern days society structures. The bands two core members Moira Mirck Moi and Goran Konjicija Konjak

debut album, described by Dutch critics as “an amazing potpourri of rhythm and
sound” went to support 5 projects of the World Nature Fund. The bands second album,
produced by Stuart Epps and Steve Albini will be released in June 2008, on their own
independent label Ziel. www.myspace.com/pinkditlofiluckduck |

DJ Tacky Onassis
Cyprus Avenue, Friday 25th April. 01.15.
Ruth (aka Tacky) will play Grace Jones followed by something old school disco followed by PIL and
then get into a thing around 60's tail feather shaking, before dropping some bizarre go-go version of
something or other, with plenty of tunes by female artists for the occasion that’s in it! She dances a lot
and has to remember to line up the next track. She sometimes gets a bit tipsy. Catch Tacky Onassis at

Estel
Cyprus Avenue, Sunday 27th April. 23.55.
Estel formed in Dublin in 1999 and since then have released 4 albums, while going
through many line up changes. Always true to the independent DIY ethic, they have
avoided trends and the snares of media attention. Estel offer their own interpretation of
early 80s post punk and new wave with plenty dashes of rock thrown in for good
measure. As such staunch supporters of DIY they have played at two Ladyfest
fundraisers and we are delighted to welcome them back again for our festival.

Happy Homemakers
Cyprus Avenue, Sunday 27th April. 21.30.
The Happy Home Makers from France won't wash your house but trash your house!
Describing their music as a kind of ugly grunge, the band mix old stuff from the
attic with a pinch of good humour. This is blended with a strong friendship between
the four girls Juju, Dedee, Lolo and Gwenn, who come from a place at the end of
earth, called Finistere. Beware of your ears! www.myspace.com/happyhomemakers |

Janey Mac
Cyprus Avenue, all ages show, Sunday 27th April.
16.50.
Emily considers the learned guitar. Cathy discourages it, tapping her foot, her finger
ticks. Holding hands and basses they spit into the magazine made rock star crotches
and swing their sick heads into the violent noise boom caress, radiating from the
blistered fingers and scream throat-raw roar. Child-like choruses and logical
incompetents flurry along fret boards while drum sticks are sacrificed in the name of an
exorcismic hysteria. Visitors from improbable painted frequencies may bolt from the
blue surprise with tin whistle toots and oil brush lamp lick. Virginity. Polygamy. Crane
Fly. Telly. It is Janey Mac. Then Brain joined...www.myspace.com/janeymacmusic |

best from the 60s and 70s, OMGIMBH are pure pop for now people!

Party Weirdo
Cyprus Avenue, Saturday 26th April. 21.00
Party Weirdo, basing themselves between Dublin and Berlin consists of three females
expressing feminist ideals and more. The band delivers driving, happy, melodical music
that will keep you dancing! Aside from the 3D talents of vocalist/ guitarist Cara
Holmes and drummer Emily Aoibheann, the multi-instrumentalist Therese McKenna
changes the dynamic of each song, by turns playing flute, cello and bass guitar. The
result is a set that ranges from tight post-punk pop songs to loose anti-structures of
whoops, squeals and free-rock abandon. www.myspace.com/partyweirdomusic |

Queen Kong
Cyprus Avenue, Friday 25th April. 00.25
And then Queen Kong. What ever it is the Dandys searched for in that dodgy
house party aftermath these guys have growing out of their heads like cabbage.
They pose like there is no tomorrow. Missy out front is a dreamy teen aged night
mare - with that 1982 Clare Grogan shockative (word tm Clare 2006 – all rights
reserved) bleached blonde hair, bright blue eye shadow and black boots. The
guitarist favours fishnet uppers and leopard skin leggings, one of the boys rips off
his top – oh oh slightly misshapen never mind who are we to talk? They have a
sparkling, noisy power pop sound that could scoop up those rinky dink hoes for
ever. Watch out Queen Kong is coming!! www.myspace.com/qk |

Suicidal Birds
Cyprus Avenue, Saturday 26th April. 00.30
The Suicidal Birds are two girls (Jessie: vocals, guitar / Chay: bass guitar, vocals)
from the northern province Friesland, the Netherlands. The release of their debut
album "Z-List" caused rave reviews in the Netherlands and UK. The band’s rapidly
established live-reputation also led to two invitations by Dinosaur Jr. to be their
support in Holland and Belgium. Armed with out-dated amps, (self made) pedals,
drum machine, bass guitar, guitar and the elastic strong and moving voice of
singer Jessie, they bring up a raging storm, drenched in the raw passion of the
blues combined with the energy of punk emphasising the rough and readiness,
that is so essential in rock and roll. www.myspace.com/suicidalbirds |

a drummer, bassist, guitarist, keyboard player and vocalist (who may or may not be

harmonica and plastic noises thrown in for good measure. These girls listen to the
sound of paper rustling and like repetitive loops. Some of their interests include
crochet, drawing, books, bicycles, tea, cake and having fantasy relationships with
strange people they meet on the street. www.myspace.com/taptapclickclick |

The Monday Club
Cyprus Avenue, Saturday 26th April. 22.10
The Monday Club from UK are Astrud on guitar and vocals, Jessamine on bass and
vocals, and Amy on drums and occasional vocals. The motivation that glues this
band together has been the attempt to create a sound that satisfies a combined
aesthetic; the intention to write songs that resonate. The songs are ideas-based:
cropped observational narratives, stark impressions of strange histories, dark blue
cinematic lynchian atmopherics cut with sharp drums and curious basslines. It is
frequently rough sounding, which is part accidental and part choice. Right now
harshness and subtlety seem to be the carefully balanced elements that are most
important to this band. www.myspace.com/mondayclubband |

Zing
Cyprus Avenue, Sunday 27th April, all ages show, 16.05.
When Michelle, Brian and Alan found themselves dancing in a darkened
kitchen to The Smashing Pumpkins at a party, a musical bond was formed.
Zing opened shop in 2006 with the aim of making diverse music with bundles
of energy, and anyone who attended their early 'garage gigs' can confirm that
this mission was accomplished. That very garage became Zing's laboratory,
where they mixed concoctions of their influences and inspirations into songs
that are just what your imagination ordered. It also became the setting for the
recording of their EP 'like a monster', where you'll find six songs full of
energy, passion, style and fun. This electrifying alt-rock three piece outfit draw
inspiration from such varied sources as At the Drive-in, The Redneck Manifesto
and Bjork, but the end result is a sound that is uniquely Zing.
