VISUAL ARTS SPACE

ESB Building Caroline Street – opposite Cyprus Avenue

As Ladyfest began to take shape we realised that we also wanted to celebrate female artists by curating a diverse exhibition in one art space. We found the perfect space, the Old ESB building opposite our gig venue Cyprus Avenue, and we set up an open submission process. And then it really began to take on a life of it’s own! We were very excited about the prospect of an all female exhibition with no restrictions on medium or subject matter and we soon realised that lots of women out there are interested as well, we received over 300 submissions. Such a huge number of submissions made our final choice of artists for the exhibition a very difficult one. There was obviously a huge need for an art space that allowed amateur artists to exhibit. We will also be exhibiting art from professional artists and after long deliberations we think that our art exhibition will be a unique and interesting one.

The building itself is big and bright and upstairs we will have lots of interactive and collaborative art projects for you to get your hands messy and get arty. This will not be a hush hush church-like exhibition space, we want you to get to know your fellow Ladyfesters by taking part in workshops that will be taking place in the art space and by adding your own personal touch to a paint-by-numbers painting and miniature sculptures to name but a few! On both floors we will be exhibiting a wide array of photography, print, painting and graphic design as well as video and sound installations. We want you to hear, see, touch and feel the art and make a bit of noise if you want to. The official opening of the exhibition is Wednesday evening the 23rd of April at 6.00pm.

Come along and feed your arty side, a paint brush in one hand and a glass of wine in the other, and see some amazing art!

WORKSHOPS & MUSIC IN THE VISUAL ARTS SPACE

Zine Workshop taught by Gethan Dick
Friday 25th April 15.00 to 17.00 & Saturday 26th 11.00 to 13.00

Take part in zine making groups in the art space where you can write, draw and talk about the art you have just seen. The work will be photocopied into a quirky homemade zine so that everyone can take away their own copy that they helped to create!

Giant Origami Workshop taught by Elisende Caamano
Saturday 26th April 15.00 to 17.00

This ancient Japanese paper folding art form is magnified to giant proportions. You will be guided in how to make beautiful folded creations and we will hang the origami in the exhibition afterwards so that your work will be part of our exhibition!

Tap Tap Click Click
Sunday 27th April 18.00 to 18.40

Based in Dublin, they are a drummer, bassist, guitarist, keyboard player and vocalist, with some melodica, accordion, harmonica and plastic noises thrown in for good measure. These girls listen to the sound of paper rustling and like repetitive loops. Their alternative soundscape will close our exhibition on Sunday evening. www.myspace.com/taptapclickclick
