ABOUT LADYFEST CORK

Ladyfest Cork is a community based, not-for-profit event. We want to celebrate and encourage the talents of women of all ages, colour, creed, background and sexuality. The festival will feature bands, artists, filmmakers, workshops and more. The core organisers of Ladyfest are women, but everyone is encouraged to attend and volunteer. Our aim is to create a positive, all-inclusive forum for discussion, performance and celebration!

SOME BACKGROUND

Ladyfests are non-profit events organised mainly by women; they aim to showcase the talents of female artists and performers. The events are focused mainly on encouraging the talent of women and girls, but are open to everyone. Its roots are in the underground scene. The first ever Ladyfest took place in Olympia, Washington in 2000. It was quickly followed by similar events all over the US and Europe and it looks like the trend is not over yet! Each ladyfest is organised as a unique event and they are often not specifically related. They do, however, all share a similar ethos and combine local talent with musicians / artists / performers from further afield.

 

Sexual Violence Centre Cork

This year is the 25th anniversary of the Sexual Violence Centre.

Over those 25 years the Centre has provided counselling and support to teenagers, women and men who have been raped or sexually abused. The Centre facilitates workshops in schools, community and statutory organisations and agencies, to highlight the reality of sexual abuse and it’s impact on victims and families. The Centre is also involved in research and is on a number of committees and aims to influence social policy and improve legislation for victims of sexual violence.

While the work it has done for the Cork community is invaluable, the Centre is almost entirely self - funded and is at present €40 000 in debt.

Ladyfest Cork is a community based, not - for - profit event. We plan to donate any profits we do make to local Cork charities, one of which is the Cork Sexual Violence Centre.
